About Angkor Heavy Motor Co.,Ltd

  • Message from Management

Since its establishment in 1972, Hyundai Heavy Industries has grown into the world’s leading heavy industries company by successfully diversifying from shipbuilding into offshore and engineering, industrial plant and engineering, engine and machinery, electro electric systems, construction equipment, and green energy businesses. Over the past four decades we have encountered and prevailed over innumerable challenges and obstacles.
  • History

Chung Ju-yung, the late founder of the Hyundai Group, created Hyundai as a construction company in 1947. Chung decided to enter into shipbuilding in the early 1970s ignoring that Hyundai had no experience, capital, or shipbuilding technology whatsoever. Despite these challenges, the company received orders for two 260,000-DWT crude oil tankers from Greek magnate George Livanos while Hyundai's Shipyard was still in the planning stages.

Business

HHI has a global business network in each of its seven business divisions: Shipbuilding, Offshore & Engineering, Industrial Plant & Engineering, Engine & Machinery, Electro Electric Systems, Green Energy, and Construction Equipment.

The Hyundai Spirit

For four decades Hyundai Heavy Industries has been accomplishing things thought to be theoretically and scientifically impossible. These accomplishments are due to the company's unwavering determination and endless efforts. The key to our success lies in the "Hyundai Spirit," created by HHI's founder, Mr. Chung Ju-yung.

Vision & Values

In 1972 Chung Ju-yung won his first ship order with little more than some seaside property and a vision to become a world-class shipbuilder. Today, our founder's determination to "create something out of nothing" exemplifies the indomitable spirit that continues to drive us in our quest for excellence. We aspire to be a 'Global Leader', sailing into a brilliant future.

At a Glance

Our vision is to become a "Global Leader" in the heavy industries sector. Four decades ago that vision was only a dream, but after transforming an empty stretch of beach into the world's largest shipyard, that dream has become a reality. Our vision is a vast bridge connecting "reality" and "future" and has ultimately allowed us to lead in our field. This vision is a part of the "Hyundai Spirit": Creative Wisdom, Positive Thinking, and Unwavering Drive.

Shipbuilding

The world’s No.1 shipbuilding
Hyundai Shipbuilding Division, the world's number one shipbuilder, leads the global shipbuilding industry with a 15% share of the market. The Hyundai shipyard stretches over four kilometers along the coast of Mipo Bay in Ulsan, Korea. The Shipbuilding Division is capable of building all types of ships to meet various demands from its clients. It has ten large-scale drydocks with nine huge 'Goliath Cranes'.

Offshore & Engineering

Leading the Global Offshore Industry
Offshore & Engineering Division of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is located 5km away from the main shipyard of HHI and operates the world's largest offshore yard covering 292 acres. HHI's involvement in offshore structures began with a Saudi Arabian order for 89 jackets and deck structures for the Open Sea Tanker Terminal for the Jubail Industrial Harbor Projects in 1976.

Industrial Plant & Engineering

One-stop solution
The Industrial Plant & Engineering Division has 38 years of experience in industrial plant projects. It provides sophisticated engineering capabilities for power plants and carries out, on a turnkey basis, all phases of project implementation including engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and training.

Engine & Machinery

World's largest builder of marine diesel engines
The Engine & Machinery Division is the world's largest marine diesel engine builder with approximately 35% global market share. The division reached the production milestone of 130 million bhp (brake horsepower) in 2-stroke engines in 2013.
