Senior Cost Estimator - QS

Job Role

The Senior Cost estimator should be competent in providing an effective and efficient Cost Management services and works closely with team members of each disciplines within the company. The incumbent acts as the lead team on bid and preconstruction estimates. Beyond the day-to-day, the team will contribute to longer-term improvements project, process improvement and the documentation efforts that will help Unisun reach new heights.

General Responsibilities

The Senior cost estimator is responsible for planning, analyzing specifications, performing takeoff and pricing of various construction projects
 

Specific Responsibilities

-          Manage a complete estimate through final review and closeout

-          Review construction plans and specifications to complete quantitative take-offs and support estimators

-          Develop budget estimates by performing accurate quantity take offs using plans and specifications, or conceptual information.

-          Prepare cost options, cost strategies, change order reviews, valuations of work in progress and bid analyses

-          Prepare preconstruction estimates for schematic and design development levels for project.

-          Develop cost estimating deliverables for full lifecycle project.

-          Develop pricing and unit rates from first principles including understanding and ability to utilize productivity rates in calculation of labor rates

-          Participate in Value Engineering studies and negotiations with contractors

-          Use BIM-Assisted Detailed Estimating tools and know jargons such as IFC file, 4-5D, LOD, interoperability

-          Create the process of incorporating the software tools into the organization’s production system including knowing how to control the process and monitoring the quality of the outcomes (integration with the company’s project job costing system)

-          Develop number-centric data to be refined for construction purposes. Extract design data and turn it into construction (production) quantities. The quantity system enables further use of quantities for costing, scheduling, procurement and logistics.

-          Create and develop “information” by adding parameters into the file that will allows the company to filter information in a different way following a Standard Method of Measurement to align it with the financial system for budget and cashflow control.

-          Requirements

Minimum requirements

-          Minimum 5 to 10 Year' experience in estimating commercial and residential construction projects.

-          Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Quantity Surveying or equivalent recognized technical qualification

-          Experience of working for a reputable QS Consultancy; a large Contractor or within a D&B Main Contractor as a lead estimator;

Preferred requirements

-          Knowledge and understanding of execution of cost management services; good planning, organizational and communication skills essential. Understanding of technical and non-technical documents related to cost management services required. 

-          Knowledge of controlling and monitoring outcomes quality of company production system

-          Hands on experience of pulling, improving data and turning them into construction “production” quantities for further purposes (costing, scheduling, procurement, logistics)

-          Has experience and an excellent knowledge of back costing, project financial performance and QS processes.

-          In depth knowledge of industry-estimating software packages.

-          Experience of projects using BIM and comfortable with using BIM in service delivery (estimation or Take offs etc.)
